Dear Friend,
I am writing on behalf of the Young Colonials Junior Ancient Fyfe & Drum Corps of Carmel, New York. Although many of you may be familiar with the corps, let me tell you a bit about it.
The Young Colonials were formed in 1972 as a parade corps for the Lake Carmel Fire Department. With a strong foundation for the corps to grow around, with eager members, enthusiastic parents, skilled instruction and strong community support, the Young Colonials turning into one of the premier junior parade corps in the Hudson Valley during the 1970’s.
Through the years, the Young Colonials have been a strong supporter of other drum corps. They’ve traveled to musters throughout the Northeastern and Midwestern states including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Florida, where they’ve performed several times at Disney World! The corps has also traveled to Canada, and members performed at the 2nd European Muster in Lugano, Switzerland, leaving a piece of the Young Colonials tradition on foreign soil!
In the world of competition, the Young Colonials have been rather successful, winning many championships in the New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Greater Danbury, and Hudson Valley Drum Corps Associations. In 1989, the Young Colonials reached one of their ultimate goals, as they won the Northeastern Championship. In achieving the victory, the corps did so in admirable fashion averaging an 89.3, the highest score by a junior corps in the 1980’s. The corps continues to win these prestigious events to this day.

The Young Colonials are proud to host their music festival each year at beautiful Putnam County Park on the second Saturday in August. They’ve hosted corps from all over the world…corps as close as Danbury to Michigan to Switzerland!

In the past, we’ve had the West Point Hellcats and the President’s Own Fyfe & Drum Corps, The Old Guard…both prestigious groups include past members of the Young Colonials!

Sincerely,

Catherine Cavallo
